Join Campaign & do your bit
Our goal is to plant a million Trees in the next two years through our different campaigns which is a major forest restoration effort with a goal of planting a 10 million trees across India in the next 10 years. Trees provide so many benefits to our everyday lives. They filter clean air, provide fresh drinking water, help curb climate change, and create homes for thousands of species of plants and animals. Planting a Billion Trees can help save the Earth from deforestation. It’s a big number, but we know we can do it with your help.
Eco-Friendly Jungle
Forests also provide fuel for cooking and warmth, medicinal plants, food, wildlife habitat, clean water, spiritual and cultural touchstones, and for many, the means to earn a living.
The concept of Eco-Friendly Jungles is a Japanese Concept created by Akira Miyawaki and also popularly known as the Miyawaki Method. This involves restoring native forests from seeds of native trees on very degraded soil which were deforested and are without humus. Using this he successfully restored many protective forests. Thereby he showed restoration of soil was possible by using judicious choice of pioneer and secondary indigenous species.
We at GNF have implemented this technique at various of our sites where we plant various species native to the existing ecological system which helps them to grow thereby restoring the soil and helps in turning wastelands into Eco-Friendly Jungles. We have planted 20 mini jungles in New Chandigarh.
Multiplication & propagation of Plants
Propagation multiplication, also called “assisted cutting”, presents the new individual who separates from the mother plant only once he has formed his own roots. Generally, a branch of the mother plant is bent up to the ground and a section is interrupted.
The process of multiplication & propagation is simple. It consists of taking the severed pieces or cuttings of trees or plants and using those for planting a new one. This process helps in utilizing the wasted or idle cuttings or severed ends to grow a new plant, thereby making the optimum use of such cuttings or pieces and help creating more denser populations of trees quicker than a seed.
Collection of Saplings
This is the simplest way to collect seed. It does not require skilled labour. Collection from natural seed fall is suitable for trees with large fruits, pods, and seeds e.g. Tectona, Gmelina and some Dipterocarps.
It all begins, with a seed. That seed one day grows into a plant, and that plant grows into a tree. Little by little, a beautiful seed can reaches the heights of the skyline. Just like that, we intend to grow our movement of tree plantation.
By growing different saplings of different species in different areas as per the environment, which benefits nature as well as humankind. The various species of saplings that we grow include indigenous species such as, plumeria, sohanjana. Amaltas, Bahera, Gul (Indian Fig Tree), Neem, Amla, Tun, Mango, Java Plum. These saplings have various health benefits such as, maintaining healthy body with anti-oxidants, purifies air, overall health benefits such as preventing cancer, protecting the liver, treating stomach complains, making bones healthier, treating mood disorders, regulating blood sugar level, improving sleep, etc.
10 Lakh Trees
As part of its annual monsoon plans, the civic body’s garden department, even this year promises to grow new trees in the city. And so it has claimed that in the past five years, they have planted at least 10 lakh new trees.
To combat the upcoming crisis of various Environmental issues (Such as Climate Change, etc.), it is important that we plant as many trees as we can. It is one of the easiest and most effective way to tackle the harmful emissions from human activities. Scientists around the world have done studies to understand how many trees are required for us to plant so in order for us to reverse the effects of various environmental issues, stating that we need to plant around 1.2 trillion trees on earth by 2050 in an attempt to bring a positive change. Also considering the rapid increase in carbon emissions and other emissions the rate of plantation only increases and deadline tends to come faster.
Therefore, we took the initiative to plant 10 Lakh Trees by 2025 , and not just plant them but also maintain them. So far we have planted 8 Lakh plus trees since June 2018 in New Chandigarh and we strive to continue our efforts in planting more trees!
